U kakvoj praznini povijesti su ovi ušutkani preci zarobljeni? Kroz prizmu slomljenih sudbina Petrowskaja prati obrise nestale Srednje Evrope i donosi priču o dvadesetom stoljeću u kojoj se izmjenjuju svjetlo i tama, snaga i krhkost, slava i poraz.

Zusammenfassung: "Paul Reitter's scholarship on German-Jewish culture has won acclaim in both specialized journals and forums like the New York Review of Books, the London Review of Books, Bookforum, and the TLS, which named his study of Karl Kraus one of the best books of 2008. Writing for such publications as The Nation, Harper's Magazine, and the Jewish Review of Books, Reitter has also produced essays that address topics related to his expertise but written for a wider audience, earning a reputation for being a witty, erudite, and deeply illuminating critic in the popular intellectual arena. Bambi's Jewish Roots brings together the best of his essayistic work, which take on an array of figures and concerns, from the contradictions in Heinrich Heine's self-understanding to the echoes of Zionism in Felix Salten's novel Bambi"--(Provided by publisher.) Zusammenfassung: "An illuminating account of the life and demise of German Jewry"--(Provided by publisher.)

Zusammenfassung: "Thirty-five authors, through seventy-nine poems and short prose pieces, tell the story of the twentieth century's greatest refugee crisis. An English translation brings their work to English-speaking readers for the first time, side by side with the original German. The poems contextualize past and present responses to issues of asylum, reflect on the state of being stateless, draw parallels between the United States and Austria, and resonate deeply with our own contemporary geopolitical landscape"--(Provided by publisher.)

Zusammenfassung: "Germany, November 1938: Otto Silbermann receives a knock on his door and realises he must flee. A respected German-Jewish businessman, he has managed to evade the escalating brutality of the Nazi regime. But now, as he and his wife plan to leave, all avenues are shut down and he is forced to abandon his home amid the untrammelled violence of Kristallnacht. With all the money he can gather stuffed into a suitcase, Otto takes train after train across Germany, desperately seeking to cross the border, every moment terrified a fellow passenger will discover his Jewish identity. An unbearably tense rediscovered classic, The Passenger is an unparalleled depiction of the terrifying atmosphere of Nazi Germany."--(Provided by publisher.)
