    Der Textkorpus, den Germanisten heutzutage als interkulturell, transnational oder ohne festen Wohnsitz beschreiben, ist in der deutschsprachigen Literatur in den letzten Jahrzehnten beständig angewachsen. Der vorliegende Band befasst sich mit dem Phänomen migratorischen Schreibens und nähert sich der Komplexität der Thematik durch die Betrachtung aus verschiedenen Blickwinkeln. Die Vielfalt der behandelten literarischen Genres reicht vom biographischen literarischen Essay über Lyrik, Roman und Drama bis zu autobiographischen und populärwissenschaftlichen Prosatexten. Diese Spannbreite spiegelt sich auch wider in den biographischen Hintergründen der behandelten Autoren. Der zeitliche Rahmen der untersuchten Texte reicht von den 1930er Jahren bis an den Beginn des 21. Jahrhunderts. Dabei stammen die Schriftsteller, deren Schreiben von der tatsächlichen oder imaginierten Bewegung zwischen ihren Herkunfts- und Lebensorten geprägt ist, aus sehr unterschiedlichen Regionen Europas. „Den Tagungsband kennzeichnet insgesamt eine breite Auswahl von literarischen Texten und verschiedenen literaturtheoretischen Forschungsansätzen. Jedoch wirkt die Zusammenstellung thematisch wie gattungsmäßig sehr heterogen. Die Spannbreite reicht etwa von deutschsprachigen Gegenwartsromanen osteuropäischer Autorinnen und Autoren über die Literatur des Exils bis zu Fragen der Darstellung von Fluchterfahrungen im Gegenwartstheater. Dies dokumentiert einerseits die ambitionierte Zielsetzung der internationalen Tagung, andererseits leidet darunter die thematische Konzentration etwas. Trotz dieses Monitums kann der Band als Referenz für die Auslandsgermanistik und die interkulturelle Germanistik von besonderem Interesse sein, da in ihm ein komplexes Problem mit hoher soziokultureller Brisanz von ausgewiesenen Expertinnen und Experten kenntnis- und facettenreich beleuchtet wird“ (literaturkritik.de)

    This book makes an important and timely contribution both to comics studies and urban studies, offering a decolonisation and reconfiguration of both of these already interdisciplinary fields. With chapter-length discussions of comics from cities such as Cairo, Cape Town, New Orleans, Delhi and Beirut, this book shows how artistic collectives and urban social movements working across the global South are producing some of the most exciting and formally innovative graphic narratives of the contemporary moment. Throughout, the author reads an expansive range of graphic narratives through the vocabulary of urban studies to argue that these formal innovations should be thought of as a kind of infrastructure. This 'infrastructural form' allows urban comics to reveal that the built environments of our cities are not static, banal, or depoliticised, but rather highly charged material spaces that allow some forms of social life to exist while also prohibiting others. Built from a formal infrastructure of grids, gutters and panels, and capable of volumetric, multi-scalar perspectives, this book shows how urban comics are able to represent, repair and even rebuild contemporary global cities toward more socially just and sustainable ends. Operating at the intersection of comics studies and urban studies, and offering large global surveys alongside close textual and visual analyses, this book explores and opens up the fascinating relationship between comics and graphic narratives, on the one hand, and cities and urban spaces, on the other

    Storytelling in the Digital World' explores new, emerging narrative practices as they are enacted on digital platforms such as Amazon, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. Contributors' online ethnographies investigate a wide range of themes including the nature of processes of transformation and recontextualization of offline events into digital narratives; the effects of digital anonymity and pseudonymity on narrative practices; the strategies through which virtual communities discursively work together to solidify and negotiate their sociocultural identities; the tensions between the affordances that characterize different online media and the communicative needs of users; the structures and modes in which virtual users construct and enact participatory practices in these environments; and the significance of different spatiotemporal dimensions in the encoding, sharing and appreciation of stories.     Storytelling in the Digital World' explores new, emerging narrative practices as they are enacted on digital platforms such as Amazon, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. Contributors' online ethnographies investigate a wide range of themes including the nature of processes of transformation and recontextualization of offline events into digital narratives; the effects of digital anonymity and pseudonymity on narrative practices; the strategies through which virtual communities discursively work together to solidify and negotiate their sociocultural identities; the tensions between the affordances that characterize different online media and the communicative needs of users; the structures and modes in which virtual users construct and enact participatory practices in these environments; and the significance of different spatiotemporal dimensions in the encoding, sharing and appreciation of stories.     This book makes an important and timely contribution both to comics studies and urban studies, offering a decolonisation and reconfiguration of both of these already interdisciplinary fields. With chapter-length discussions of comics from cities such as Cairo, Cape Town, New Orleans, Delhi and Beirut, this book shows how artistic collectives and urban social movements working across the global South are producing some of the most exciting and formally innovative graphic narratives of the contemporary moment. Throughout, the author reads an expansive range of graphic narratives through the vocabulary of urban studies to argue that these formal innovations should be thought of as a kind of infrastructure. This 'infrastructural form' allows urban comics to reveal that the built environments of our cities are not static, banal, or depoliticised, but rather highly charged material spaces that allow some forms of social life to exist while also prohibiting others. Built from a formal infrastructure of grids, gutters and panels, and capable of volumetric, multi-scalar perspectives, this book shows how urban comics are able to represent, repair and even rebuild contemporary global cities toward more socially just and sustainable ends. Operating at the intersection of comics studies and urban studies, and offering large global surveys alongside close textual and visual analyses, this book explores and opens up the fascinating relationship between comics and graphic narratives, on the one hand, and cities and urban spaces, on the other

    Der Textkorpus, den Germanisten heutzutage als interkulturell, transnational oder ohne festen Wohnsitz beschreiben, ist in der deutschsprachigen Literatur in den letzten Jahrzehnten beständig angewachsen. Der vorliegende Band befasst sich mit dem Phänomen migratorischen Schreibens und nähert sich der Komplexität der Thematik durch die Betrachtung aus verschiedenen Blickwinkeln. Die Vielfalt der behandelten literarischen Genres reicht vom biographischen literarischen Essay über Lyrik, Roman und Drama bis zu autobiographischen und populärwissenschaftlichen Prosatexten. Diese Spannbreite spiegelt sich auch wider in den biographischen Hintergründen der behandelten Autoren. Der zeitliche Rahmen der untersuchten Texte reicht von den 1930er Jahren bis an den Beginn des 21. Jahrhunderts. Dabei stammen die Schriftsteller, deren Schreiben von der tatsächlichen oder imaginierten Bewegung zwischen ihren Herkunfts- und Lebensorten geprägt ist, aus sehr unterschiedlichen Regionen Europas. „Den Tagungsband kennzeichnet insgesamt eine breite Auswahl von literarischen Texten und verschiedenen literaturtheoretischen Forschungsansätzen. Jedoch wirkt die Zusammenstellung thematisch wie gattungsmäßig sehr heterogen. Die Spannbreite reicht etwa von deutschsprachigen Gegenwartsromanen osteuropäischer Autorinnen und Autoren über die Literatur des Exils bis zu Fragen der Darstellung von Fluchterfahrungen im Gegenwartstheater. Dies dokumentiert einerseits die ambitionierte Zielsetzung der internationalen Tagung, andererseits leidet darunter die thematische Konzentration etwas. Trotz dieses Monitums kann der Band als Referenz für die Auslandsgermanistik und die interkulturelle Germanistik von besonderem Interesse sein, da in ihm ein komplexes Problem mit hoher soziokultureller Brisanz von ausgewiesenen Expertinnen und Experten kenntnis- und facettenreich beleuchtet wird“ (literaturkritik.de)
