    Questo studio, premettendo un’analisi del Coriolanus come opera politica aperta, indaga un corpus di adattamenti del testo, appartenenti alla cultura tedesca, sottolineando il loro essere, al contempo, atti estetici e atti politici, fortemente implicati e funzionanti nei relativi contesti storici, culturali e sociali. Il termine ad quem di tale indagine è il 1951, anno in cui Bertolt Brecht iniziò la sua nota riscrittura dell’opera shakespeariana. La ricerca − di natura comparatistica, interculturale e interdisciplinare – riconosce nel Coriolanus un’estetica dell’ambiguità, della pluralità e dell’indefinitezza, che permette di spiegare la peculiare ricezione del testo, oltremodo ricca di adattamenti e riscritture, volte a correggere o confermare, ridefinire o stravolgere il modo in cui la vicenda era stata raccontata precedentemente e le funzioni conferite alle relative narrazioni, nei contesti storico-sociali di appartenenza. I risultati ottenuti portano a ridefinire i confini del campo culturale costituito dall’opera di Shakespeare e invitano ad una moderna riflessione sull’uso politico della storia e della sua trasmissione, anche attraverso il teatro.

    Il libro offre una nuova edizione critica e commentata del Plantus Magistrae Doloris, versione in antico volgare veronese di un Planctus Mariae, stesa nella seconda metà del XIV secolo. Una prima trascrizione era stata pubblicata nel 1891 da Gustav Oehlert: il nuovo editore è riuscito a identificare il testo latino da cui il volgarizzamento discende, il che ha consentito anche di chiarirne alcuni passaggi problematici; inoltre ha fornito uno stemma codicum dei tre manoscritti che conservano il testo latino, identificando il ramo della tradizione da cui il volgarizzamento dipende. L'edizione è corredata da un dettagliato commento linguistico e dal glossario This is a new critical and commented edition of the Planctus Magistrae Doloris, a vernacular old Veronese prose version of a Planctus Mariae that was copied in the second half of the 14th century.
