    Obwohl die Sprache einer der Grundsteine bei der Formierung und Aufrechterhaltung soziokultureller Gruppen ist, wird sie auch von eben diesen Gruppen beeinflusst. In den linguistischen Beiträgen der Mitglieder solcher Gruppen spiegeln sich verschiedene soziokulturelle Konventionen unbewusst wider. Unterschiedliche Erwartungen in bezug auf den Konversationsstil bei Interaktionen zwischen Sprechern verschiedener Kulturen können deshalb zu Missverständnissen, Konflikten und sogar zur Bildung bzw. Verstärkung von Stereotypen führen. Ziel dieses Aufsatzes ist es, einige Beispiele und Überlegungen zu Konversationsstil und Interkulturalität im allgemeinen und zum Verhältnis zwischen Deutschen und Brasilianern im besonderen zu präsentieren. At the same time that language is fundamental for establishing and maintaining social-cultural groups, it is also influenced by them to the extent that a number of social-cultural conventions are unconsciously mirrored in their members’ linguistic manifestations. Different expectations regarding conversational style in interactions between speakers from different cultural groups can lead to misunderstandings, conflicts or even to the creation and perpetuation of stereotypes. This paper will present some examples and considerations of conversational style and interculturality in general and about conversational style in German and Brazil in particular.

    Binomials are idiomatic expressions consisting of two elements of the same formal class and united by a grammatical tie, usually a preposition or a conjunction. This paper examines examples of German binomials and the mechanisms that rule the selection and organization of their elements. Binômios são expressões idiomáticas lexicais formadas por dois elementos da mesma classe formal, unidos por um elo gramatical, geralmente uma preposição ou uma conjunção. O artigo examina exemplos de binômios em alernão e os mecanismos que regem a seleção e a organização de seus elementos.

    This paper presents results of research into syntactic negation in both German and Brazilian Portuguese dialogues. After some considerations on the nature of negation, its occurrence in a corpus is investigated based on semantic negation categories established from works by Polenz and Engel. Based on Ilari's works, possible syntactic negation forms are presented as formulae that express the relationships between their components. Use frequency of syntactic negation in the semantic categories in each language is presented, as well as possible sources of interference in the use of such elements by foreign speakers, along with considerations about negation, culture and language. Der Aufsatz präsentiert die Ergebnisse einer Untersuchung der syntaktischen Negation in deutschen und brasilianischen Dialogen. Nach einigen Überlegungen über Negation und Sprache wird ihre Okkurrenz in einem Corpus von Dialogen in beiden Sprachen in Bezug auf semantische, in Anlehnung an Polenz und Engel ausgearbeitete Kategorien untersucht. Ausgehend von Ilaris Arbeiten werden die Möglichkeiten der syntaktischen Negation in jeder Sprache als Formeln präsentiert, die die Beziehungen zwischen ihren Komponenten darstellen. Außer der Gebrauchsfrequenz von syntaktischer Negation in den semantischen Kategorien in jeder Sprache werden noch mögliche Interferenzprobleme bei dem Gebrauch der syntaktischen Negation von Fremdsprachlern erörtert, sowie breitere Überlegungen über Negation, Kommunikation und Kultur.

    An important role in the coherence of texts is played by the distribution of information in the sentence. The present paper especially examines the beginning of sentences (topics). Which syntactic elements are most adequate to initiate a sentence, and which of their characteristics can be considered responsible for this? After a short review of the pertinent literature, we shall present grammatical, semantic and pragmatic factors that organize topicalization. The point of departure are the patterns of basic serialization as defined by the grammar. Deviations of these patterns can particularly be a result of the principle of known information. In addition to this constitutive principle, we can distinguish five regulative principles that lead to non-marked topicalizations (situation, empathy, iconicity, lengthening terms, text connection). In the closing sections, the positioning of phrasal accents and some special types of topics will be discussed. All the examples given are from modem German. Eine zentrale Rolle für die Kohärenz von Texten spielt die Verteilung der Informationen im Satz. In der vorliegenden Arbeit werden vor allem Satzanfänge (Topiks) betrachtet. Welche Elemente (Satzglieder) sind geeignete Anfangselemente, und auf welche Eigenschaften ist dies zurückzuführen? Nach einem Überblick über die einschlägige Literatur werden grammatische, semantische und pragmatische Faktoren vorgestellt, die die Topikalisierung regeln. Den Ausgangspunkt bildet die grammatisch definierte Grundserialisierung. Abweichungen von ihr können sich vor allem aufgrund des Bekanntheitsprinzips ergeben. Neben diesem konstitutiven Prinzip werden fünf weitere, regulative Prinzipien benannt, die zu einer unmarkierten Topikalisierung führen (Situierung, Empathie. Ikonizität, wachsende Glieder, Textkonnektion). In den Schlußkapiteln werden die Plazierung des Satzakzentes und einige besondere Typen von Topiks behandelt.     An important role in the coherence of texts is played by the distribution of information in the sentence. The present paper especially examines the beginning of sentences (topics). Which syntactic elements are most adequate to initiate a sentence, and which of their characteristics can be considered responsible for this? After a short review of the pertinent literature, we shall present grammatical, semantic and pragmatic factors that organize topicalization. It is therefore not only merely acquisition of knowledge, but also a process of converting all that is apprehended by the learner in accordance with his identity and experiences. This work proposes a theoretical model for cognitive processes related to foreign language production, relying on recent neuroscientific theories about memory, learning and processing of representations of frequent linguistic sequences (chunks), focusing on data concerning German as a foreign language. As a result, theoretical knowledge about a foreign language and the abilities to use it are seen as complementing skills that interact during the learning process, rather than different stages of the same knowledge defined by time of learning and storage in the memory, as suggested by some authors. ; A cognição pode ser definida como um processo de aquisição de conhecimento que tem como material a informação do meio em que vivemos e o que já está registrado na nossa memória. Este processo envolve percepção, atenção, memória e ação, e nem sempre acontece de forma consciente. Mais do que simplesmente a aquisição de conhecimento, é um processo de conversão de tudo o que é captado pelo aprendiz de acordo com sua identidade e suas experiências.     An important role in the coherence of texts is played by the distribution of information in the sentence. The present paper especially examines the beginning of sentences (topics). Which syntactic elements are most adequate to initiate a sentence, and which of their characteristics can be considered responsible for this? After a short review of the pertinent literature, we shall present grammatical, semantic and pragmatic factors that organize topicalization. The point of departure are the patterns of basic serialization as defined by the grammar. Deviations of these patterns can particularly be a result of the principle of known information. In addition to this constitutive principle, we can distinguish five regulative principles that lead to non-marked topicalizations (situation, empathy, iconicity, lengthening terms, text connection). In the closing sections, the positioning of phrasal accents and some special types of topics will be discussed. All the examples given are from modem German. Eine zentrale Rolle für die Kohärenz von Texten spielt die Verteilung der Informationen im Satz. In der vorliegenden Arbeit werden vor allem Satzanfänge (Topiks) betrachtet. Welche Elemente (Satzglieder) sind geeignete Anfangselemente, und auf welche Eigenschaften ist dies zurückzuführen? Nach einem Überblick über die einschlägige Literatur werden grammatische, semantische und pragmatische Faktoren vorgestellt, die die Topikalisierung regeln. Den Ausgangspunkt bildet die grammatisch definierte Grundserialisierung. Abweichungen von ihr können sich vor allem aufgrund des Bekanntheitsprinzips ergeben. Neben diesem konstitutiven Prinzip werden fünf weitere, regulative Prinzipien benannt, die zu einer unmarkierten Topikalisierung führen (Situierung, Empathie. Ikonizität, wachsende Glieder, Textkonnektion). In den Schlußkapiteln werden die Plazierung des Satzakzentes und einige besondere Typen von Topiks behandelt. Alle verwendeten Beispiele stammen aus der deutschen Gegenwartssprache.

    This paper presents results of research into syntactic negation in both German and Brazilian Portuguese dialogues. After some considerations on the nature of negation, its occurrence in a corpus is investigated based on semantic negation categories established from works by Polenz and Engel. Based on Ilari's works, possible syntactic negation forms are presented as formulae that express the relationships between their components. Use frequency of syntactic negation in the semantic categories in each language is presented, as well as possible sources of interference in the use of such elements by foreign speakers, along with considerations about negation, culture and language. Der Aufsatz präsentiert die Ergebnisse einer Untersuchung der syntaktischen Negation in deutschen und brasilianischen Dialogen. Nach einigen Überlegungen über Negation und Sprache wird ihre Okkurrenz in einem Corpus von Dialogen in beiden Sprachen in Bezug auf semantische, in Anlehnung an Polenz und Engel ausgearbeitete Kategorien untersucht. Ausgehend von Ilaris Arbeiten werden die Möglichkeiten der syntaktischen Negation in jeder Sprache als Formeln präsentiert, die die Beziehungen zwischen ihren Komponenten darstellen. Außer der Gebrauchsfrequenz von syntaktischer Negation in den semantischen Kategorien in jeder Sprache werden noch mögliche Interferenzprobleme bei dem Gebrauch der syntaktischen Negation von Fremdsprachlern erörtert, sowie breitere Überlegungen über Negation, Kommunikation und Kultur.

    This paper emphasizes the importance of intonational studies, focusing on the final intonational contour in interrogative sentences in German and Brazilian Portuguese. Following considerations about intonation in general we present some observations about effects of intonation in such sentences at both syntactic and pragmatic levels. Der vorliegende Beitrag untersucht die Relevanz der Intonationsforschungen in Hinsicht auf die Rolle des terminalen Konturs in Fragesätzen im Deutschen und im brasilianischen Portugiesisch. Beginnend mit allgemeinen Überlegungen zur Intonation erörtert der Artikel ihre Wirkung in diesen Sätzen sowohl auf der syntaktischen als auch auf der pragmatischen Ebene.

Como resultado, nota-se que o conhecimento teórico sobre a língua estrangeira e a capacidade de utilizá-la são habilidades complementares que interagem na aprendizagem da mesma, mas como saberes distintos, e não estágios do mesmo conhecimento determinados pelo tempo de aprendizagem ou armazenamento na memória, como sugerem alguns teóricos da área. Aus der Sicht der Neurowissenschaft kann Kognition als ein Wissenserwerb-Prozess definiert werden, der sowohl Informationen aus der Umwelt als auch aus unserem Gedächtnis verwendet. Der Prozess baut auf Perzeption, Aufmerksamkeit, Gedächtnis und Handeln auf und läuft nicht immer bewusst ab. Es handelt sich dabei aber nicht nur um Wissenserwerb, sondern um die Umwandlung all dessen, was vom Lerner anhand seiner Identität und Erfahrungen wahrgenommen wird. Davon ausgehend wird hier ein theoretisches Modell der Wissensverarbeitung im Rahmen der Produktion in einer Fremdsprache vorgestellt, das auf neuen neurowissenschaftlichen Theorien über Gedächtnis, Lernen und die Verarbeitung von Repräsentationen häufiger linguistischer Sequenzen (chunks) basiert und mit Daten aus dem Bereich Deutsch als Fremdsprache illustriert wird. Aus dem Modell ergibt sich, dass theoretisches Wissen über eine Fremdsprache und die Fähigkeit, die Sprache erfolgreich zu verwenden, als einander ergänzende, während des Lernprozesses miteinander interagierende Fähigkeiten anzusehen sind, und nicht als zwei Phasen einer durch Lernzeit und Speicherung im Gedächtnis bestimmten einheitlichen Kenntnis, wie von manchen Autoren vorgeschlagen wird.
